The burner covers on this should have the same effect as lava rocks, we don't recommend using lava rocks on any of our BBQs.

Gas canisters shouldn't be kept in an enclosed area - It's potentially hazourdous to store a gas bottle inside a BBQ even when not in use. Store this separately and you're good to go.

A 13kg gas canister is recommended for BBQs with 4 or more burners. This BBQ is supplied with a 27mm clip-on propane regulator (37mbar) suitable for use with the following types of gas: Calor Patio Gas, Flogas Leisure Gas, and BP Gaslight.

Propane is recommended for these, and it will be delivered with a propane regulator. Butane will also work but you'll need to purchase a regulator separately.

Yes it does - they protect the burners and vaporise and recirculate flavour from juices and marinades that drip onto them. I have experience with a similar model to this and can confirm that the heat is distributed evenly across the whole grill.
I have attached the product manual for you, it has a blown-out diagram so you can see in detail exactly what's included.
